Ogden Civic Action Network

Ogden Civic Action Network (OgdenCAN) is a collaboration between the University, community partners, and neighbors committed to improving the health and well-being of our community.

Our Hyper-Local Commitment: Ogden Neighborhoods

OgdenCAN is Weber State University's place-based initiative focused on neighborhood health, wellbeing, and opportunity. Currently, our deepest focus is in the East Central neighborhood, a 10-block by 10-block area located in the heart of Ogden. Here, we support resident leadership development, facilitate civic action networks, and invest in innovative community research to improve neighborhood health, wellbeing, and opportunity.

Centering the Community: OgdenCAN is guided by what we call the Five Community Pillars of Health: healthy lifestyles, vibrant economy, lifelong learning, safe & strong neighborhoods, and community connection as our core pillar. We believe that healthy communities are connected communities. When people feel a sense of belonging, build trust, and engage in civic life, lasting community impact becomes possible.

Mission

To focus on the health and well-being of residents in Ogden neighborhoods.

Vision

Thriving Ogden neighborhoods through five areas of focus: vibrant economy, healthy lifestyles, lifelong learning, safe and strong neighborhoods, and community connection.

OgdenCAN Board

Weber State University is part of a growing national movement focused on Anchor Mission work. Across the country, universities, hospitals, and financial institutions recognize their deep responsibility to the communities where they are rooted. As an Anchor Mission–focused university, ³Ô¹Ï¹ÙÍø directs its resources and partnerships toward regional economic impact and place-based initiatives—such as OgdenCAN—that strengthen the communities where we are anchored.

The OgdenCAN Board brings this approach to life through a collaborative partnership between Weber State University, fellow anchor institutions, community partners, and residents. Together, these partners contribute their knowledge, resources, and perspectives to guide OgdenCAN’s shared priorities, strengthen local partnerships, and advance the health and wellbeing of Ogden neighborhoods.
